John uses backs of letters to try out his inks before adding to collages. He writes on the back of these and this is one he sent in 2002.

It is rather wonderful isnt it. I notice now that this envelope was originally sent to his old address in 1972 and he'd only just got round to using it as a palette and then to write a letter on in 2002 some 30 years later!
